Russia to the semifinal

What a match. From Russia. They played Holland of the pitch and advanced to the semifinal after a brilliant show. Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko and the others gave the Dutch team a taste of their own medicin. Van Nistlerooy was very close to give Holland the lead in the first half but when Russia scored in the second, the "orange hurricane" was in real trouble.

The truth is that Holland didn't created one single scoring opportunity untill van Nistlerooy put them level again. Van der Vaart had a few shot from distance but Russia was closer 2-0 during the whole second half.

When Greece won the European Cup for years ago they did it almost without attacking. Russia isn't interesting in anything else but attacking. If they win the whole thing next sunday, we don't know yet. But they play this tournamnets most entertaining football.

The fans from Holland don't look to dissapointed. What can they do. They lost against a better team. Some russian fans are singing but the streets are filled with italians and spanish fans. I hope you see it on the pictures, the fans from both sides standing in front of each other singing and dancing together. It is a beautfiul scene.

"Ciao Italia, ciao italia - are the spanish fans singing.
"Soi campione del mondo, soi campione del mondo (we are world champions) - are the italians answer.

Tomorrow we are looking forward to an exciting game. Who will play Russia in the semifinal, Italy or Spain?

Luca Toni?

Holland against Hiddink

Today after Croatias bitter defeat against Turkey there are still some croatians walking the streets here in Wien. The turkey fans have left the city and moved to Basel in Switzerland were they will play Germany for a place in the final.

A lot of spanish fans and some italians are also seen here. Tomorrow night there will be a great quarter final here att he Ernst Happel Stadium between two big footballnations.

Tonight Holland are playing Russia. Russia advanced to the quarter finall after an easy victory over Sweden. 5-0 would have been a more justice result if you look at the game, then the 2-0 that Russia won with. Against Spain they played very good offensively but couldn't do anything about Villa and Torres in Spains quick counter attacks. Tonight against Holland I don't think that they will make the same mistake again.

It will be a tuff game but in the end I think Holland will win. They are brilliant in their attacks and have scored nine goals in three games. I don't belive that even Guus Hiddink can do anything about it.

Hiddink took South Korea to a semifinal and Austrailia to the second round in the World Cup. Now he have taken Russia to the second round for the first time in the nations history. Last time they got this far in a tournament they did it under the name of Sovjet.

Hiddink was the coach of Holland in World Cup 98 and took the team to a semifinal. He could be the worlds best coach of national teams. Russia shouldn't be underrestimated, but like I said - Holland have been brilliant this far and maybe the "orange hurricane" will win their first tournament since 1988. Their star player in that tournament?Marco van Basten - the coach today...
