Arrivederci Italia

After two hours of football Spain won the quarter final against Italy after penalties. Daniele de Rossi and Antonio di Natale were the unfortunate ones to miss. Casillas saved two penalties while Buffon only saved one, and Spain are through to the semifinal against Russia.

I saw the game among the italian fans close to the pitch and it was a very facinating game, even tough it ended without goals. The tension, the nervous atmosphere and the singing fans made it to a very entertaining evening.

Antonio Cassano was italys best player and was a constant threat from his left wing position. But Spain as a team were faste rthan the italian side and in the end they deserved the victory.
Italy won the last world cup on penalites. I guess that is a little comfort to the team, maybe not tonight but they are still World Champions.

Spanish fans were staying at the stadium singing and dancing. The streets in Wien is quiet tonight. The two teams fans walked side by side and the italians did not seem to dissapointed.

- You are still world champions, said one from Spain to comfort an italian.
- Yes, and you are about to become european champions, was the friendly answer.

Italy lost, but that's the way it goes in football. Spain are facing Russia in an interesting semifinal.

The Carneval in Wien

Wien is a city waiting for the big game tonight. Spanish and italian fans are singing and dancing together, just like they did last night. It is a big carneval and it is sad that one team has to leave the tournamnet tonight. But that is football.

Pirlo and Gattuso are suspended for Italy. Aquilani and Ambrosini are most likely to replace them. Spain are comming with their best team and have this tournaments most dangerous striker, David Villa.

Luca Toni have failed to score this far. Cassano, Del Piero and Di Natale aswell. On the other hand that have been the case before and the italian strikers score when they really need it. In World Cup 82 did Paolo Rossi no goal until the knockout round and then Italy won the whole cup, and Rossi the Golden sho. 2006 Luca Toni didn't score until the quarter final against Ukraine. Also that time became Italy world champions.

Is it finally time for Spain. Or is the tradition to strong to beat? I will not guess a winner since I have picked wrong in every quarter final this far. It's hard not to belive in a great match. Especially when you se and hear fans outside. One of them will win tonight and stay in Wien at least a few days more.

Don't miss the game - it could be a classic one
